We are followers of Jesus Christ first and foremost.

We understand that the CHURCH is His. It is His idea, He is the Chief Cornerstone, It is His Bride, His Body, the expression of His fullness on earth today. (2 Corinthians 11:2,3; 1Corinthians 4:15; Revelation 19:7,8; Ephesians 5:22-28; 1 Corinthians 12; Ephesians 1:14, 22-23.)

We are a collective group of followers of Christ, a local church. As a local expression of evangelical followers of Christ we submit to the Fellowship of Evangelical Baptist Churches of Canada‘s statement of faith.

As a member church in the Acts 29 Network, we submit to their statement of beliefs. In agreement with these beliefs and truths you will find below our expressed summary of what we believe (click to expand):

The Scripture is revealed truth.

We believe the Holy Bible to be the complete Word of God and that the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testament, as originally written, are verbally inspired, inerrant, and infallible. (2 Tim. 3:16-17; 2 Pet. 1:20-21; Matt. 5:18; John 16:12-13)

This matters to us because:
God discloses Himself to us. He reveals to us completely what we need to know in order to enter into an abundant life of knowing Him. Therefore, we submit to God’s Word as the supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct. We find therein the life altering truth that transforms our life, our neighbourhoods, our church, and our world.

God is primary.

We believe in one true God who exists eternal as three Persons in one Being – the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. He is the Creator of the universe and all that is in it. He exists eternally unchanging, all knowing, and all powerful. He is the final Authority and is not constrained by time or space. (Deut. 6:4; Psalm 95:1-5; 2 Cor.13:4; John 1:1-4; Romans 11:33-36)

This matters to us because:
All that has been given life has been given life in Him. In Him life is given sacred dignity, value, worth, completeness, and holistic peace. He is the one and only God. This means that those who place their trust in religious methods or man-made doctrines place their trust in nothing but false versions of gods. God reveals Himself to us as the only true God in whom there is life and peace. It is this life and peace, through the one true God, that we declare as primary and life-altering to our world.

Jesus Christ is central.

We believe in the absolute and essential deity of Jesus Christ. He exists eternally with the Father before time and outside of the limits of space. In accordance with the will of the Father, Jesus the Son takes on the flesh of humanity, through the miraculous virgin birth, then lives a life of sinless perfection in the midst of Satanic temptation.

In His death, He is the sacrifice for the sin of mankind as the substitutionary atonement for those who will believe, and the means by which our lives are made at peace with our Holy Creator. We believe that the Power of God is revealed to us through the bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ. His love for us is further assured by His ascension into heaven, where He continually makes intercession for His people with the promise of His ultimate, visible return to earth as Judge and King (John 1:1-18; Luke 1:35; Romans 3:22-26; 1 Peter 2:24; Eph. 1:3-7; 1 Peter 1:3-5; Acts 1:9-10; Heb. 7:25; 9:24, Rom.8:34, 1 John 2:1-2).

This matters to us because:
How great is the Love of God for us that He would reveal Himself in such a unique and complete way by sending His Son, Jesus Christ? We see the Fullness of God through the Son but then the Son Himself expresses the Mercy and Grace of God in taking on the full punishment of our sins. This is central – we can only come to God on his terms, in His way, and by His grace. This is revealed and completed fully in His Son, Jesus Christ. He is the Way, the Truth and the Life. Through Him alone we can have life abundant.

The Holy Spirit is essential.

We believe in the absolute and essential deity of the Holy Spirit. He exists eternally with the Father, before time and outside of the limits of space. In accordance with the will of God the Father, and as a compliment to the work of Jesus the Son, the Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin and convinces the world of righteousness and the need to repent for Christ will return to Judge the world. The Spirit of God draws people to new life in Christ, leading them to live holy lives. He comforts their hearts, illuminates their minds and gives each believer gifts to live and contribute to the mission of Christ through the Church.(John 16:8-11; 2 Corinthians 3:6; 1 Corinthians 12:12-14; Romans 8:9; Ephesians 5:18)

This matters to us because:
The Holy Spirit is the Agent of God’s pursuit and means of change in our life. It is through the Holy Spirit that we are connected to the Father through the Son. The Spirit takes up residence in the lives of those who are His children and gives them the power to live a life that is pleasing to God and in tandem with the Son. To live life in an authentic spiritual way is not to live by the means of religious rules or regulations, by the hope of resolutions or self control. To live an authentic spiritual life is to live a life that seeks to be honestly submissive to the work of the Holy Spirit as we discover the will and work of the Father in our lives, city, culture and world.

Humanity is in need of redemption.

We believe that humanity’s story starts as divinely created image bearers of God. That the essential dignity, value, and worth of the human life is a gift from God. Humanity, through deliberate disobedience, refused to obey the God who had given them every good gift for life and peace. In so doing they perverted, corrupted, and entirely condemned the nations that would be born unto them.  Spiritual and physical death and separation from God were a result of this original sin. Because of this, the human race continues to – by nature and deliberate choice – live in rebellion and separation from God. “But God so loved the world that He gave his one and only Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” – John 3:16. The original completeness and intention of the human life can only be redeemed in the work of Jesus Christ, Who alone can reconcile us to a Holy God. (Gen. 1:26-27; Genesis 9:4-6; Rom. 3:22-23; 5:12; Eph. 2:1-3, 12-14)

This matters to us because:
We are created to be image bearers of God! It is because of this that we can treat every life as a gift of God’s understanding that they have dignity, value, and worth. We recognize that Christ came on a mission of redemption and, as His followers, we seek to join Him in this mission. Man is completely incapable of redeeming himself before a Holy God, either by self effort or religious rule-keeping. God is not merely a part of the work of redemption, it is His work entirely. By the Spirit, through the Son, people can be reconciled to the Father. This is the good news that we speak out and live out wherever God has called us.

The Church is community.

We are followers of Jesus Christ first and foremost. We understand that the CHURCH is His. It is His idea; He is the Chief Cornerstone. It is His Bride, His Body, and the expression of His fullness on earth today. (2 Corinthians 11:2-3; 1Corinthians 4:15; Revelation 19:7,8; Ephesians 5:22-28; 1 Corinthians 12; Ephesians 1:14, 22-23.)

Included in the Church are all who have, by faith, placed their hope and trust in the saving work of Jesus Christ alone. The local expression of Church is clearly established, continued, taught, and defined in the New Testament (Acts 14:27; 18:22; 20:17; 1 Tim. 3:1-3; Titus 1:5-11). It consists of those who are called together for corporate expressions of worship, mutual growth, spiritual encouragement, scriptural training, care for one another, and to reflect the love of Christ to the locale in which they live.

We believe that believer’s baptism by immersion is an outward step of obedience for the one who has committed their life to Christ. That a regular observance of the Lord’s Table constantly reminds us that our life and ministry is an act of worship as a direct response to the work of God’s grace, through Jesus (Matt 28:19-20; Acts 2:41-42; 18:8; 1 Cor. 11:23-26).

This matters to us because:
PAXnorth is a small expression of the entire work of God in the life of His creation. We have been called to a specific time and place, empowered by His Spirit to fulfill His Will here. We seek to fulfill the will of God as He leads in direct connection to His Word. Because of His great Love for us, we seek to love each other in the processes of our growth.

We recognize that we are all imperfect people who are seeking to live out community and love together. This type of community can only be cultivated in the Spirit and by living in accordance to His Word. The church is God’s Idea, Christ is the Head Pastor, the Spirit is the empowering, equipping Agent; As a local church, we have been entrusted with the care and expression of His Fullness to our world in the culture that surrounds us.
